2014 State Leadership Conference Grand Junction, Colorado
International Guest Monica Ochoa, Baja California, Mexico Latin American Representative
2012 Leadership Conference in Colorado Springs, Franciscan Retreat Center
Jeannette Zuniga, International Member at Large from Costa Rica, was our representative. Jeannette's warm personality and knowledgeable information delighted members who attended.
The conference was ably led by Dr. Sue Pettit, second vice-president, and leadership chair, and Donna Hoover, state president. The focus was on 'training' new chapter presidents and urging all members to get on board with the Educational Excellence projects of Early and Career Educators, Connecting in the Classrooms, and facilitating a liaison with our local schools.
Groups worked together on indicators of the health of a chapter and came up with many ideas that will be shared on the web site. The message is that it is important to continually work to improve the 'health of our chapters.'
Incoming chapter presidents met in separate sessions to go over the leadership notebook prepared by Dr. Pettit and the leadership committee. One highlight was a 'ghost walk' held on Saturday evening after the evening meal and general session. Various members represented 5 chapters from Omega State and portrayed an interesting member from that chapter. Many portrayed were instrumental in founding the chapter. Alpha, Alpha Beta, Zeta, Alpha Omicron, Alpha Iota, and Alpha Sigma chapters were represented.
Mu Chapter received the 4 Star Chapter Award for the 9th consecutive year. 15 Star Chapters were awarded out of our 37 chapters.
Kristina Kafka, incoming president of Eta Chapter in Colorado Springs, presented several selections with her elementary school choir, plus she also sang at the Saturday evening session. Kristina is a gifted teacher and musician having sung opera and appeared in several musicals. She directs the choir and also her church choir.
(Vivian Bray and Kathy Flynn attended from Mu Chapter. Family responsibilities prompted Cheryl Barnett and Gail Fray to have to cancel just prior to the conference.)
